Survey of Drama

Students will learn to analyze and critique the elements of theatre. Students will study contemporary and modern plays and basic theatre conventions and terminology. Students will learn the fundamental elements of performance and technical theatre production. Students will study how to write and present original scenes, monologues and analyze dramatic literature.

Acting I

Students will be expected to develop skills such as projection, articulation, characterization and physicalization. Students will study scenes, monologues and improvisation and pantomime will be included. Students will perform in a showcase production outside of class.

Advanced Acting

Students will study scenes and monologues and engage in acting criticism and performance quality development. Scene and monologue study as well as analyzing dramatic literature and improvisation will be included. Attending and participating in theatre productions will be a strong focus in this course.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking is for students who want to develop skills in writing and presenting speeches. Basic principles in informative, persuasive and impromptu speeches will be covered. Students will also practice speaking skills in the form of oral readings and group discussions.

Talented and Gifted Drama

Students selected for this class will learn advanced acting techniques such as inner monologue, given circumstances and character development. Students will study modern theatre movements, playwriting and classical scene study. Students will participate in school productions and write a one act original play.

English II CP


English II CP is designed to continue the study of world literature, essay writing, oral presentations, vocabulary development, and communication skills.  This course will further develop skills pertaining to HSAP and PSAT preparation and writers' use of rhetorical devices.  This course is designed to meet the challenging needs of students who are self-motivated and take initiative in their learning process.  

During the course of this semester we will be reading fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. Some things that we may accomplish in this class are: multi-genre projects, Socratic seminars, reader’s theater, and literature circles.
